Palani Beach

On the far west coast of Masbate Island, facing the Sibuyan Sea, the municipality of Balud hides the mainland's best beach, Palani: long, wide, white-cream sand, warm shallow water, and sunsets that go the full cinematic distance. On a weekday you may share kilometers of it with a handful of fishermen.

What to expect

This is Philippine beach life before the resorts arrived. A string of simple, family-run cottage resorts (Paraiso de Palani, Palani Beach Park and a few others) line parts of the beach, think fan rooms and open cottages, grilled fish, videoke in the distance. Booking happens by phone or Facebook, payment in cash. Bring what you can't live without; the nearest real shops are in Balud town.

The sand is at its widest at low tide, the swimming is easy and family-friendly, and the west-facing orientation makes sunset the daily main event.

Getting there

Palani is a road trip: roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hours from Masbate City by van or bus to Balud (vans from the city terminal, ~₱125+), then a tricycle to the beach. Leave in the morning, arrive for lunch, stay for sunset, or better, overnight.

Good to know

• Cash only, and get it in Masbate City, no ATMs out west.
• Mobile signal is usable but patchy; download your maps first.
• Dry season (November, April) is prime; some cottages scale back or close in typhoon months, and storm damage can linger. Message ahead on Facebook to confirm your resort is open.
• Pair it with Bugsayon Marine Park, Balud's local snorkeling spot, if you have an extra half-day.
